Registered dietitians. Cardium
Health registered dietitians (RDs) are experts in nutrition. They work with participants
as either primary or specialty health coaches when eating healthier or losing
weight is an identified health goal.
We receive so much conflicting nutrition information about the foods we eat.
RDs help to make sense of the information and offer reliable recommendations that enable
participants to make smart food choices. RDs understand which nutrients the body requires
and what happens to food once it is eaten. In addition, they study food processing and
its impact on the nutrient composition of foods. One of the most important aspects of
RD training involves the study of eating behavior and the social and cultural influences
that affect food choices.
By recognizing that some diets and supplements may be dangerous or may interact with
medications, RDs help participants understand why certain fad diets may be lacking in
nutrients and may in fact jeopardize their health.
Good nutrition is largely a matter of common sense. Putting good nutrition information
into practice day after day is the challenge. Our goal is to encourage real
change by
helping participants look at their individual eating behaviors, understand how they evolved,
and implement changes to improve their diets and overall health.
